People can be against GMO’s for a number of reasons. They may fear the potential negative human/environmental impact such as allergens or unintended cross-pollination or the domination of a few food companies. Also, some have objections to ‘playing God’ so to say by mixing animal and plant genes.
There are a few different reasons. Some people object on almost religious grounds – that we are “playing god” by modified genes and we shouldn’t be doing that. Others fear that the genes we tweak could have effects we can’t predict, and it could be a major health issue (i.e. allergies) years down the line when it’s too late to stop. Finally, GM crops can contaminate non-GM crops by interbreeding. Nevertheless, GM food could improve nutrition and expand food output to benefit many people.
