Spokesmen for BP and NOAA have all said that real hair used in booms to soak up the oil, doesn’t do the job as well as commercial sorbent ones. The real hair supposedly sinks too easily, which could do more harm than good. It’s unfortunate, however, that they don’t put more of a priority on using alternative methods for cleaning up an environmental disaster, instead of using chemicals and synthetic substances… sort of ironic.
