Why are tilapia such a hardy fish?

    This is probably going to be an unsatisfying answer, but, because they evolved that way. Creatures have evolved specific characteristics because it more often than not those characteristics have enabled them to survive better in their environment. Tilapia are native to North Africa and Israel and have been farmed there for the past 2,500 years. They are well adapted to a variety of water conditions, which makes them easier to raise. They likely evolved this characteristic because it better enabled them to survive in a variety of environments.
