Why are there so many twins born in the town of Cândido Godói, Brazil?

There were a high number of twins in the original colony’s population, so it is probably due to genetic isolation and inbreeding. One theory claims that Josef Mengele, who studied twins and later moved to the area, may have experimented on women to make them more likely to have twins, but it is unlikely.
