Why are there so many monkeys in Nepal?

The Rhesus monkey is native to Nepal, and the country is proud of and respectful to their population. These monkeys are considered sacred, often seen as an incarnation of the Lord Hanuman, and therefore are welcome in temples and cities. As an example of the country’s love of their monkeys, many high-ranking officials were outraged that they were being exported out of the country for inhumane use in medical research, and strongly petitioned to have it stopped.
