Why are there so many marsupials in Australia?

There are so many marsupials in Australia because that is just where they evolved and live.  Marsupials don’t have the ability to migrate out of the continent, so they have to stay there, and for the most part have thrived.  Other places, like North America, they did not do as well and other than the opposum we don’t really have any.  Most marsupials live in South America and in Australia where they basically take the place of small rodents.  Kangaroos in Australia are like deer in America and for the most part are considered a pest.  Just like why most species are often constricted to few areas of the world, marsupials are the same way.
