Why are there so many earthquakes in India?

India and the surrounding areas suffer many earthquakes and other seismic activity because of the continental plates. Nearly the entire country of India is its own continental plate, which collided with Asia thousands of years ago forcing up the Himalayan Mountains. This boundary, along with many others in and around the Indian Ocean cause result in a massive amount of seismic activity, which can produce earthquakes, landslides, etc. It is similar to the reason why the San Andreas Fault in California causes so many earthquakes.
