The reason for a variety of different quartz colors and shapes is because different crystals bond with other elements in the Earth. Quartz is comprised of Silicon Dioxide, SiO2, the Earth’s most common compound. Different color quartz comes from these compounds binding with other elements. For instance, yellow and brownish quartz is that color because of impurities from Iron, while red and pink quartz are stained with magnesium, phosphate or aluminum imperfections.
