Why are there more pigeons in the city than there are in the wilderness?

Pigeons are creatures who like rats or humans adapt really well. They thrive in big cities where fast food is rampant and human litter is more consistent. In urban centers there is an absence of predators as well which allows the population to build up past the carrying capacity that would exist in the wild. Buildings provide homes and some humans even feed them. Pigeons are natures great exploiters. Living off of what we have thrown away.
