Why are teeth one of the last things to decompose on a human?

Enamel makes up the outermost layer of our teeth, with dentine and other minerals in the layers beneath.  Enamel is an extremely hard substance.  Just think of a human lifespan and how often we use our teeth over that time.  Also consider the food we eat, some food is more acidic than others.  If teeth easily decomposed or were eaten away by the acids in our food, we would be left with no way to chew.  In short, teeth are meant to last decade after decade.
