Why are stars brighter some places?

Stars are brighter depending on your location due to atmospheric disturbances, light pollution and the distance the star is away from the earth. If you were to stargaze in the countryside away from homes or cities you would see many many more than if you were living in the suburbs and stargazing. The earth’s atmosphere distorts the light too, heat or cold air can act as a lense, making stars seem to flicker.
