Fungi live off other living things. Some species will produce secondary metabolites which can be beneficial or deadly. Some of them will continue to reproduce in the lungs, eventually causing the death of the person who inhaled them unless treatment is sought (i.e. Valley Fever or Coccidiomycosis). Others offer natural antibiotics, such as penicillin. It all depends on whether the particular fungus will feed off us, or leave us alone.
