Why are some agricultural sectors in India facing a labor shortage?

There are about 15 billion coconuts grown in India every year, and they are almost all picked by hand. Picking coconuts is very dangerous and labor intensive, as it requires climbing up the trees, with no safety gear, and slicing the nuts off the tree with large hand held blades. India is now seeing a shortage in the labor pools for picking coconuts as people who might of picked coconuts are now trying to get intellectual not physical labor jobs. There is a loosening of the rigid caste bonds that used to tie Indian into hereditary jobs. The service, technology, and IT industries have boomed in India over the last 15 years, and that is leaving some sectors of the Indian economy without the laborers that they need.
