Snails live in many different ecosystems all over the world. They provide food for other animals and are waste removers. Snails are prey to beetles, caterpillars, snakes, toads, and birds, thus nourishing many different animals. Snails also eat rotten or decaying plants, thus cleaning up their surroundings.
