Lake Vostok is one of the last pristine freshwater sources left in the world.  The lake has been covered by more than 2 miles of ice for more than 14 million years.  Scientists hope to discover a strange and untouched ecosystem in the untapped Antarctic waters.  Early this year, Russian drillers came within 96 feet of reaching the lake; the drillers have to wait until the Antarctic winter has subsided.
