Why are rain forests so rich in natural resources?

Rain forests have such an abundance of resources because of one thing; biodiversity. Rain forests contain between 45 and 70 percent of all species of plant, animal, and fungi in the world. Because of this, rain forests are a wealth of possible resources. And not just industrial materials like rubber, wood, steel and gold, but also a variety of pharmaceutical, biological and organic compounds that could be useful as science becomes more and more honed and sophisticated.
