Why are plug in conversions so expensive?

For the same reason, anything else that is new and in its infancy is expensive.  Cost associated with more expensive technology as well as recovery costs due to its limitation on how many plu in conversions there are.  If more people start doing plug in conversions and technological advances make it cheaper, the prices for plug in conversions will come down.

Plug-in conversions for hybrid vehicles are so expensive because the cost to develop and manufacture the technology is expensive.  The lithium batteries that it requires are efficient, yet very costly and the labor to have it installed along with a plug in extension cord can set you back as much as $35000.
