Why are people worried about electric vehicles and being connected to networks?

The main worry I could see is the potential for government monitoring of where you are at any time. Concern about the government knowing too much about people and controlling their movements has been around for a long time. Have you ever read 1984 by George Orwell? That will give you a pretty good idea of why people fear too much government control. When a vehicle is plugged in and being used as an energy storage bank rather than simply charging, it would most likely have a computer chip in it that the owner would program to tell the network how much energy it could take out of the vehicle and what time he/she wanted to unplug the car and use it. With this information, the government would have a pretty good idea of where you are at all times unless you were out walking or cycling instead of using your car.

It should be noted that the government is already tracking people’s movements. Whenever you use a plastic card to buy gas or a public transportation ticket, the government can access those records. This is useful for tracking down crime, but this power could potentially be abused by a corrupt government official.
