One factor is that fewer pregnant women are smoking now that the dangers are known, producing healthier, bigger babies. The downside is that congenital diabetes, a heightened amount of blood sugar in the mother, also contributes to babies growing to be larger. A third contributing factor is the size of the mother before pregnancy- as women get bigger, so will their babies.
