Why are most trenches on the sea floor found around the rim of the pacific ocean?

At the rim of the Pacific Ocean is where two divergent tectonic plates reside. Since the plates in this area are constantly shifting away from one another another, they create a trench at the point in which the diverge away from each other.

Because of tectonic activity, The Pacific Rim; which you’re describing, lines the Pacific Ocean and the Pacific Tectonic Plate – here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/Pacific_Ring_of_Fire.png

The Image shows trench occurrence with its alignment along the Pacific Plate’s rim.
