Why are insects so easily disregarded compared to more dynamic animals?

I think they are often disregarded as important because of their size, and because of their lack of beauty. A lot of the bigger animals that we tend to associate with ‘save the wildlife’ movements are large, beautiful animals (tigers, zebras, elephants). However, I believe insects play just as important of a role in the overall biodiversity and stability of ecosystems. In order to function, ecosystems need a range of animals-big and small.
