Why are hydroponics gardens so efficient?

Because the water lost is an absolute minimum. There is no excess watering, no soil waste, and even nutrients – depending on if you empty the reservoir or not – will usually be completely used. The only true water loss comes in the way of evaporation, outside of that any water used is being used directly by the plants. Also when you use soil you can eventually leach it of all it nutrients, which can be tougher to tell than when using water. Finally, you can add whatever nutrients the plants need and when in their life cycle they need them and the nutrients will not be washed, drained, or simply flow away; they stay in the hydro system until they are either used by the plants or dumped out to refreshen up the water in the system.
