Why are hybrids so much more expensive than regular cars?

The Lithium-ion batteries are the single most expensive component of a modern hybrid or electric car. However, you can always choose lead-acid batteries instead to lower the price. Lead-acid batteries are heavier and make the car less efficient, but they are also easy to recycle when you are done with them.

Hybrid cars are more expensive than either electric cars or internal combustion engine vehicles alone because they have both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The more parts you have, the more expensive the vehicle.
