why are giant pandas black and white?

Scientists aren’t completely sure, but one theory is that they evolved their black and white color scheme so that they would stand out against the greenery of their environment so that they could find eachother to mate.  Because they live a solitary lifestyle, finding a mate is work and they need to be able to find eachother somewhat easily.

Another theory is that the large blocks of color make them more difficult to see.  For instance, it is very difficult to spot panda cubs that are in the trees because of their coloring.
