Why are feral camels in Australia coming in to towns and destroying infrastructure?

Currently, parts of the Australian continent are suffering from a serious and long-lasting drought.  In addition to affecting the area’s human inhabitants, this has a detrimental effect on wildlife as well – including feral camel populations.  The camels invading local towns appear to be searching for water, but in the process have damaged infrastructure and threatened the safety of the human populations.  In some parts of Australia, human settlements are almost the only places left where these feral hoofed animals can find water to survive.
