Why are wind farms so spaced out?

For one thing, tubines are big, so they have to be relatively spaced out to avoid interfering with each other or other objects around. There are also problems with them interfering with aircraft radar signals. And, of course, they are still an emerging technology that can be very expensive, so the number of turbines is rationed.
