Why are environmentalists so against nuclear energy it is carbon free?

First of all, nuclear energy creates radioactive waste that then is extremely hazardous and very difficult to transport and store safely. In addition, the fuel isotope used for nuclear energy, Uranium-235 has already been mostly used. To refine uranium-238 to a usable state takes a large amount of energy in itself. Finally, there is a huge risk to the surrounding area posed by nuclear plants and their dangerous potential to undergo a meltdown.
