Why are elephant ear plants bad for the Louisiana bayou?

Elephant ear plants are an invasive species. They are currently choking out the waterways on the bayou, restricting the amount of water available to the area’s nearly 300,000 residents. In addition, elephant ear plants force out indigenous species and upset the delicate wetland ecosystem.
