Why are cockroaches so difficult to kill?

Cockroaches are an evolutionary wonder in how durable their bodies are. Not only can they go a month without food easy, but they can go without air for 45 minutes and spend up to 30 minutes submerged in water. The myth that they survive nuclear bombs however is subject to question. Cockroaches have higher lethal doses to radiation than human because a cockroach’s cells divide much slower than humans, which means they are less damaged by radiation. Despite this, they will still likely experience some side effects from the lingering radiation in the area.
