Carbon dioxide emissions are not inherently bad, as carbon dioxide is an essential component of the atmosphere and occurs naturally. However, emissions become bad, even toxic, when they occur in such a large quantity as to overwhelm an ecosystem and disrupt its delicate balance. For this reason, carbon dioxide emissions have gained so much negative attention for the huge volume we have released in the last 200 years through the burning of fossil fuels.
