Why are cities easier for people to survive in?

Cities concentrate all of the necessities for human survival: food, shelter, water. All are within easy access of the people living there. Cities also meet a lot of other human needs and desires — for social contact, for industry, for entertainment, for medical care, etc. We built them because they make our lives easier. They’re a habitat we’ve created for ourselves, just like the ponds that beavers construct.
