Why are cars lasting longer now than they ever have?

Recent years have seen some great innovations in engine design that have resulted in longer-lasting engines. In essence, most cars are considered “done for” when the engine goes out. So, keeping the engine running means the car lasts longer.

In addition to better engine designs that result in longer-lasting engines, the synthetic oils have also been improved, allowing better handling of higher temperatures for longer periods of time.

Add to all of this the introduction of hybrids, and the results are even better. Hybrid engines tend to run cooler for longer, resulting in reduced engine wear.
