Aldo Leopold is one of my favorite conservationists because of his ability to mix science and poetry. His writings have the ability to instill our emotions into nature; making us sympathize with nature the way same way we do with our own. His words hold truth and insight, as well as beauty. A Sand County Almanac is perhaps his best known work, as well as various entries for magazines like American Forests, Journal of Forestry, and Journal of Wildlife Management.
“We shall never achieve harmony with land, any more than we shall achieve absolute justice or liberty for people. In these higher aspirations, the important thing is not to achieve but to strive.”
Theodore Roosevelt, he started the National Parks service in the United States. He certainly started a tradition of the United States appreciating its natural beauty.
