In the US, the first mention of a separation between the church (ethics) and state (politics) was brought forth by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 in his “Wall of Separation” letter to the Danbury Baptist Association. He believes the government should not be involved in anything that would impact the values and actions of the church. Both are exclusive to each other, which is the best way forward.
