While they may not be the world’s first, the first wildlife photos in any “National Geographic” issue appeared in 1906. The photographer was U.S. Representative and conservationist George Shiras. The first photographer was Joseph Nicéphore Niépce whose photo entitled “View from the Window at Le Gras,” taken in 1826, does show an appreciation for the natural world.
