Who runs the national parks?

    In America, a federal organization called the National Park Service has been running the country’s national parks since 1916. The NPS runs almost 400 parks and manages over 275 million visitors a year. It has a budget of 2.75 billion a year.

    The NPS’ stated mission is to “[care] for special places saved by the American people so that all may experience our heritage.”
