In at least some cases, the answer to this is conservation societies and conservation funds. This is the case in the Upper Green River Valley in Wyoming, where The Conservation Fund has protected 5,000 acres of private land and enhanced 85,000 acres of public land. Because river valleys are often hot spots of flora and fauna, the efforts of conservation societies are invaluable.
