Although the idea of conserving the resources of the planet has been around for thousands of years, there are a few people who championed these ideas and whose work contributed significantly to the modern green movement. Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring in 1962, which was for many people the introduction to the idea that however they interact with the land will have far-reaching effects. Going further back, Teddy Roosevelt created the first wildlife refuge in 1903, and was very interested in the idea of conserving America’s most beautiful green spaces.
