It is impossible to say who is the one most important person as there are a number of people who have contributed. Einstein made his name with his theory of relativity and later revisions of it to improve it. Planck was the one who exposed the quantum nature of energy. Rutherford and Bohr worked together to find out the structure of atoms and Chadwick discovered the neutron, which later led to Fermi using the neutrons to create the first atomic bomb. Georges LeMaitre was the one who introduced the Big Bang Theory, which still holds with many people today. Penzias and Wilson also worked together and discovered microwave radiation, which is now used in households everywhere. All of these discoveries were made by different people and all contributed to another discovery later on in physics. There are of course many more examples than that, but overall it is like Newton said: “If I have been able to see further than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.”
