In the US, the US Department of Agriculture monitors soil health under the Natural Resource Conservation Service. The necessity of soil conservation and management became apparent after agricultural activities contributed to the Dust Bowl effect during the Great Depression. Proper soil practices are necessary to maintain agricultural health and ecosystem vitality.
