Jane Jacobs died in 2006. She was a writer and activist best known for her “critique of the urban renewal policies of the 1950s in the United States” in her 1961 book “The Death and Life of Great American Cities”. Jacobs worked to block urban-renewal projects that would have destroyed local neighborhoods.
Jane Jacobs was a writer and activist, who, for 40 years was a champion for innovative and community based approaches to urban planning. Even though she had no official training as a planner, she used her observation and intelligence to come up with plans that would work for cities. She attempted to change urban life in the way very few of us do.
