Up until July of 2008, the largest urban garden was the 14-acre South Central Farm located at 41st and Alameda in Los Angeles which provided food and livelihood to local immigrants. Scott Hamilton Kennedy’s documentary film “The Garden” chronicles the garden from its establishment in 1992 as a way to give the low-income community hope and solidarity after the LA Riots to when developers served an eviction notice in 2008.
The San Francisco League of Urban Gardeners is the largest urban gardening organization.
