The Buffalo Sabres travel the fewest miles out of all NHL teams during the 2009-2010 season. This comes from the fact that many of their opponents are relatively nearby, like Toronto, Pittsburgh, New York, Boston and Philadelphia, and all of their games against teams on the west coast are grouped into one long trip in January. The Calgary Flames, by the way, have to travel the most miles.
Lots of NHL teams are trying to go green by getting their local communities involved in recycling and responsible energy use. Last season, a game in Nashville between the Predators and the Kings was rescheduled so the Predators could dim the lights in their arena to participate in Earth Hour.
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ new arena, The Consol Energy Center, will attempt to be LEED Gold certified upon completion later this year.
