One possibility is the UN’s Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD) program. This program is meant to incentive developing countries to not destroy their forest by giving paying them for not releasing the carbon emissions trapped in their forests. The program provides funds from industrialized countries to give developing an economic reason to counter the possible economic benefits of developing forest land for agriculture or other non-sustainable practices.
