The Evergreen State College was the first to begin pilot programs helping utilize inmates for the greater good. The project was initiated on July 1, 2008. Today the project has expanded to several other correction facilities.
More specifically, the program was a collaboration between the Washington State Department of Corrections and Nalini Nadkarni and Carri LeRoy, two facutly members at Evergreen College. In addition, several graduate students in Evergreen’s Masters in Environmental Sciences program are involved in the program.
