Who founded the Sierra Club?

    It was founded by John Muir 1838-1914). He was considered “America’s most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist.”

    John Muir founded the Sierra Club and was the club’s first president until his death in 1914. He is considered the father of our national parks and has many interesting books on conservation and the benefits of naturalism.

    John Muir (1839-1914) founded the Sierra Club. He is also known by “The Father of our National Parks,” the “Wilderness Prophet” and “Citizen of the Universe.” The man, by which ever name you chose to call him, was a wilderness explorer known for his adventures through California’s Sierra Nevada. He penned his journeys which became a major contributor to the creation of many national parks including Yosemite, Sequoia, Mount Rainer, Petrified Forest and the Grand Canyon.
