Who do farms sell their food to? Directly to markets, or to some type of distributor?

Farmers have several choices of where their food can be sold. The best option is through a farmers’ market because farmers can generally recieve the greatest share of profit and consumers can pay a lower price. This is because there are no intermedary parties to buy the produce and mark it up along the way. Other options of where farmers can sell their food include:

    1. Other Farmers and Ranchers
    2. Auctions and Commodity Exchanges
    3. Food Manufacturers
    4. Food Processors
    5. Food Service Distributors
    6. Food Service Establishments
    7. Supermarkets
    8. Other Wholesalers

Additionally, farmers can sell their goods to any combination of these potential buyers.
