In the United Arab Emirates, water comes primarily from wells and desalination plants. Groundwater wells make up 76% of withdrawn water. Consumption in 1995 was as follows (in cubic meters per year):

    - Agriculture = 1,300 million m3 (61.7% of withdrawals)

    - Domestic purposes = 500 million m3 (23.7% of withdrawals)

    - Industrial purposes = 200 million m3 (9.5% of withdrawals)

    - Landscape irrigation = 108 million m3 (all reclaimed water)
