The decision to make an effort towards sustainability usually has to come from fairly high-up in a corporation’s executive ladder, because for a large company to truly become sustainable, it takes a lot of changes to the budget. Marketing departments may see opportunities for the company to promote itself in a good light, and make proposals to executives. The motivation may also be financial, since going green could help save money over several years. Many companies are trying to take advantage of the green movement, which unfortunately has led to a lot of greenwashing and false promises.
