The EPA was created in 1970 by President Nixon. It was created as Nixon attempted to reorganize the Executive Branch so that they could more effectively address environmental problems that were plaguing the country.
President Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on July 9, 1970. He transmitted Reorganization Plan no. 3 th Congress, thus creating the EPA as a single, independent agency from a number of smaller arms of federal agenices. Prior to the creation of the EPA, the government wasn’t well structured enough to handle the problems of pollutants and their effects on human health and on the environment. Several tasks given to the EPA werel; repairing damage already done to the environment and to establish criteria to help promote americans to aid in making a cleaner America.
